I was catching up with a Reiki student earlier today and she mentioned that she kept her copy of the Reiki Precepts on her Fridge. That way as she is waiting for the jug to boil or preparing a meal she can reflect on ‘how she has done’ for the day. I love visual prompts and reminders so the Fridge is an ideal focal point for our important intentions.
I keep mine up in my office and before I work with clients I meditate on the precepts and give myself a Reiki self treatment. This quickly gets me out of my ‘personal’ awareness and into ‘non personal’ awareness ready to work.
There are many versions of the Precepts but the one I have framed and tend to work with is this:
Just for today I will let go anger.
Just for today I will let go worry.
Today I will do my work honestly.
Today I will respect my teachers.
Today I will count my many blessings.
Today I will be kind to every living thing.
After working with these precepts in varying intensities and focus over the last 15 years I can attest to their value as a recipe for happiness. While we are all a work in progress so to speak, the precepts remain a foundation for my life. This week I have been counting my many blessings and bringing my attention to those aspects of my work and running a business that I don’t enjoy so much (namely paperwork and admin!!). I’m being kind to myself where I can and letting go of what doesn’t serve me on a physical level (rubbish, clutter, old arrangements) and making room for new, more efficient use of space, time and aesthetics.

I drew a card today and the message was: Let Go Let go of whatever you are clinging to that doesn’t serve you. When we add consciousness to our process, it all has a way of working out for the best, even if it doesn’t feel comfortable.

Practical suggestions to enhance your experience
It’s not easy putting aside the demands of a busy lifestyle to make time for healing. Like other healing practices, including yoga and meditation, bringing yourself to a place of healing requires discipline and commitment.
Now that you’ve committed to your Reiki Session, how do you ensure you get the most out of that session? Here are some practical suggestions that will help enhance your experience.
Firstly, leave your worldly cares behind. This is your time. Be fully present. Have a light snack before your session and avoid drinking a lot of coffee or tea.
Wear crystal jewellery or carry a small crystal in your pocket; it will absorb energy and continue to vibrate for hours after your session.
On the table, let go of your worries and thoughts. Set your intent to receive healing. Relax, let your body be completely supported where you lie. Breathe in deeply, filling the lungs then exhaling all the air. Settle in and let the energy work on you.
After your session try to find some quiet time and space to let the healing continue to work on you. Eat a light, healthy meal or snack and remember to drink water to stay hydrated.

At this time of year it’s normal to feel a little blue. The drop in temperature, grey skies and health issues that are common in winter, can easily bring us down.
That’s where the healing energy of Reiki can help. Reiki helps melt away tension and pain, whether it’s stress-induced or health related. And if you’re struggling through the heavy dullness of the midwinter blues, caring support, healing touch and a brighter, lighter heart can make it that much easier to cope with.

One of my favourite activities at this time of year is to have a bonfire with friends; the connection to warmth and fire and transformation that it brings is a wonderful mid-winter assistant. Fire is purging and cleansing and warming and enlivening.
This time of year is a good time to reflect on the importance of sharing fellowship and community, finding a balance between quiet ‘in-breath’ activities, such as meditation, healing, journalling and nature time, with ‘out-breath’ activities like socialising and fellowship.
